60th Anniversary Lecture Series - Stumperies and Ferneries: Exploring a Long Forgotten Gardening Style - Presented by Dan Hinkley

Dan Hinkley, principal designer of the new Stumpery garden at Fernwood, will share his vision for the outdoor space that celebrates ferns and their hardy southern Michigan allies. In addition, he will discuss the history of stumperies as well as their resurgence, beginning with Prince, now King Charles‘ construction of his own stumpery at Highgrove in the UK.


About the speaker:

Dan Hinkley is an American plantsman, author, lecturer, plant collector, and nurseryman. He is best known for establishing Heronswood Botanical Garden in Kingston, WA, where he is currently Director of the garden, and Windcliff, his personal garden in Indianola, WA. Dan is committed to solid and sustainable horticultural practices, above average garden plants, landscapes of distinction, and raising the collective awareness of the diversity of plant life on Earth as well as the magic and mysteries of our natural world.
