Environmental Education: School Field Trips
Fernwood’s gardens and natural areas are the perfect setting for students to observe, explore, and learn about nature! We offer a variety of engaging and interactive programs throughout the year for preschool-5th grade students. Each on-site program lasts for 1-2 hours and may consist of a nature hike, an educational game, and a creative activity or stewardship activity.
Reciprocal Admissions
Fernwood membership has its privileges, and an important perk of membership is reciprocal benefits at participating gardens, nature centers, and museums across North America. Your Fernwood membership card allows you free admission to more than 330 public gardens and nearly 200 nature centers. Fernwood members at the Century level and above may enjoy reciprocal admission and discounts to an eclectic list of nearly 300 art, history, and cultural centers in North America.
Reciprocal members visiting Fernwood receive admission for up to two guests upon presentation of a current membership card from participating organizations.

Group Visits and Tours
Fernwood welcomes visits from clubs and other groups during normal public hours. A 20% discount on regular adult admission fees applies for your group of twenty (20) or more, if you register in advance and pay in one lump sum. ONLY ONE DISCOUNT MAY BE APPLIED. Stacking discounts is not permitted.
If you call at least two weeks before your visit, we are happy to provide your group with a tour guide or speaker, pending availability. We can accommodate up to 12 people per walking tour group and up to 120 people in a classroom program. If your group is larger, please let us know when you call, so we can schedule additional guides or speakers to serve you.
Tour fee: $25 per guide, per 12 people. Speaker fees vary depending upon the type of program and size of the facility used.
If our regular programs do not fit your schedule or needs, Fernwood offers opportunities to learn on your own. Interpretive signs are located along the garden paths and woodland trails.
