History & Garden Tours
Calling all nature AND history enthusiasts!
During your visits to Fernwood, you've probably seen our charming waterwheel. But did you know that it's more than just a pretty sight? The waterwheel was installed to honor Walter Boydston, the husband of Fernwood’s founder, Kay Boydston. It also pays homage to the 13 mills that once operated along McCoy Creek, shaping our beloved local communities!
Fernwood's property is rich with stories to tell. From the land's original indigenous inhabitants, to the European settlers of the 1800s, and later Fernwood's founders, the Boydstons, who made the property their home in 1942.
If you're interested in learning more about the fascinating people, beautiful plants, stunning gardens, and unique structures that make Fernwood the special place it is today, we've got just the thing for you! Join us for a guided interpretive tour, where our knowledgeable guides will take you on a journey through time. It's a summer activity that allows you to explore and appreciate the rich tapestry of Fernwood's past, present, and future with friends, family, or colleagues.
We are sure you'll leave with a newfound appreciation for our rich history and the beauty that surrounds us.
