Natural Dyeing with Invasive Barberry

Explore the magic of natural dyeing while learning to identify and manage an invasive plant species! In this hands-on class, we’ll experiment with basic resist techniques to create patterns on silk bandanas and then immerse the fabric in a prepared dye bath. While the dye simmers, we’ll head outside to hunt for invasive Japanese barberry on Fernwood’s property and learn how to harvest and process the roots to make the bright yellow dye.

What to wear: Long pants and long sleeve shirts, hiking shoes or boots, tall socks, and leather gardening gloves (if you have them).
