With each brushstroke, botanical artist, Heeyoung Kim, breathes life into the portrayals of selected plants in an art form where science converges into aesthetics. The show titled, “Botanicals, Wildflowers & Garden Delights,” will be featured in Fernwood’s art gallery June 10 - August 25. All are welcome to attend the opening reception at Fernwood on June 12 from 2-4 pm. Throughout the exhibit, the Fernwood gift shop will be carrying greeting cards, silk scarves, and art prints created by Kim.
Her collection of works in watercolor, crow quill pen-and-ink, graphite pencil, and colored pencil displays the botanical details of each species beyond the reach of ordinary eyes. Kim’s works are distinguished with her intuitive, yet distilled style and compelling composition. She hopes the viewers of this exhibit will be encouraged to protect our native plants.
Kim is a Chicago artist who has exhibited at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C. and the Shirley Sherwood Gallery at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London. To view more of her work, please visit www.heeyoungkim.net.
