Meet the Greats: Fernwood Virtual Lecture Series
From the Windy City and the Big Apple to the Motor City and far regions across the globe, world-renowned Dutch landscape designer and author, Piet Oudolf, shares with us his recent project in eastern Michigan and beyond. Inspired by the energy of Detroit, Piet completed the initial planting in late summer 2020 of the naturalistic public garden on Belle Isle. Both artistic and ecological, he choses perennials, grasses, shrubs, and trees for their hardiness, durability, and ever-changing textures and colors for enjoyment in all seasons. Piet is a leading figure of the New Perennial movement, using bold drifts of herbaceous perennials and grasses that are chosen at least as much for their structure as for their flower color. Piet will be speaking to us from his and wife, Anja’s, home in Hummelo, The Netherlands.
