Meet the Greats: Fernwood Virtual Lecture Series
One of only three houses built in the U.S. by famed modernist architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the Farnsworth House, completed in 1951, has become a place of myths and legends. An icon of modern architecture, the Farnsworth House continues to inspire artists and designers around the world. Located west of Chicago on the Fox River near Plano, Dr. Farnsworth preferred a natural and agricultural setting, while the property’s second owner, the British Baron, Peter Palumbo, landscaped the property and added sculpture and a visitor center. Scott Mehaffey, director of the Farnsworth House, who began his career as a landscape architect at The Morton Arboretum, will discuss the site’s past, present, and emerging vision for its future. Farnsworth is one of 28 historic properties owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
