Tallgrass Prairie Tour

  • Fernwood Botanical Garden 13988 Range Line Road Niles, MI, 49120 United States (map)

Over North America, prairie habitat is continuously threatened due to anthropogenic development. These rare and fragmented ecosystems, rich in biodiversity, provide vital homes to numerous native species of birds, insects, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.

Join us as we explore the beauty and diversity of Fernwood’s own Tallgrass Prairie, established in 1974. You’ll learn all about prairie plant identification, how to use a dichotomous key, habitat structure, invasive species identification, and prairie management techniques.

Please dress accordingly – long sleeves, long pants, closed-toed shoes, long socks, hats, gloves, and sunscreen. Please bring a water bottle and snacks if needed.

Suggested Audience: All ages welcome

Location: We’ll meet at the Visitors Center front desk and then hike up to Fernwood’s Tallgrass Prairie. If necessary, you may drive to the Tallgrass Prairie. But please be sure to check in by calling (269)695-6491.

Cost: $15/person ($12 Fernwood members)
