Imprisoned Nature: Beauty Behind Bars - Opening Reception

  • Fernwood Botanical Garden 13988 Range Line Road Niles, MI, 49120 United States (map)

This beautiful show features 36 scientific artworks from the inmates of the Westville Correctional Facility, located in Westville, Indiana.

These works were produced as part of a course on Scientific Illustration taught during the summer of 2022. The course was taught by Dr. Catherine Craker and offered through the Moreau College Initiative (MCI) by Holy Cross College and the University of Notre Dame. The MCI program allows inmates who meet certain requirements to take classes at the prison from Holy Cross and Notre Dame faculty. Inmates earn college credit towards an Associate of Arts degree, transitioning to a Bachelor of Arts degree which can be completed at Holy Cross College after their release.

Enjoy some refreshments and light hors d'oeurves on Sunday, September 18th from 2-4 pm while you immerse yourself in the talent of these fine artists and mingle with their instructor, Dr. Craker.

This is a FREE event and open to all ages.

The exhibit will be on display from September 13-November 6, 2022.
